Medical Weight Loss

At Hendrick Body and Wellness, our medically supervised weight-loss services are designed to support the development of healthy habits and to promote long-term wellness through nonsurgical options.

This nonsurgical option is available for individuals at any weight or body mass index (BMI) and also provides a complementary option for those considering bariatric surgery or experiencing a weight-loss plateau after surgery.

Expert team in medical weight loss

Our medical weight loss team is led by our medical director, Adlene Jebakumar, MD. Dr. Jebakumar is board certified in internal medicine by Certification agency, and has additional training in obesity medicine.

Andrea Levrets, FNP, has received advanced education in obesity management through the Obesity Medicine Association to help her best serve her patients.

This expert team collaborates with registered dietitians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive, individualized care. With emphasis on improving health, enhancing daily function and supporting meaningful lifestyle changes, our approach focuses on sustainable weight loss and improving quality of life.

A supportive, nonjudgmental environment is the foundation of our care. Many of our staff members have personal experiences with obesity, bringing empathy and insight to each patient interaction.

Personalized approach to medical weight loss

Every weight-loss journey is unique. Depending on clinical needs and personal preferences, patients might receive one or multiple of these treatments and approaches:

  • Nutrition Counseling: Registered dietitians guide patients toward healthy, sustainable eating habits - encouraging smarter food choices for long-term health, without depriving patients of favorite foods.

  • Weight-Loss Education: Educational resources help individuals understand the complexity of weight loss and empower informed decisions.

  • Medications: Options include oral or injectable medications, such as GLP-1 agonists that help reduce hunger.

  • Physical Activity Guidance: Recommendations are provided to support an active lifestyle, with referrals to personal trainers available if additional support is needed.

  • Emotional Support: Recognizing the importance of mental health in weight management, the team offers encouragement and referrals to behavioral health professionals, as appropriate.

What to Expect

The initial 45-minute consultation includes a one-on-one meeting with a healthcare provider to discuss goals and concerns, as well as an evaluation and medical exam.

We'll also review personal weight-loss history to identify potential barriers and contributing health issues, medications or lifestyle factors.

Ongoing follow-up appointments are typically scheduled every four to six weeks for medication management, with visit frequency often decreasing as progress is made.

Advanced tools, such as a state-of-the-art body composition machine provides a more complete picture of overall body mass, and is used to help guide clinical recommendations.

In addition, we offer lab draws on-site to help track patients’ overall health. Lab results help us monitor treatment response, can detect underlying causes of weight gain and identify nutrient deficiencies that may impact metabolism. By understanding the full picture, our providers can tailor a plan that is safe, effective and personalized.
